ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- For the final Wednesday pre-practice meeting with the media, head coach Rich Rodriguez entertained questions in the Schembechler Hall museum. As usual, he updated the media on the injury status of various players and discussed how practice has been going this week as they prepare for The Game with Ohio State.
The good news is that both Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown, who have been riddled with injuries all year, will be in the backfield on Saturday. The bad news is that during practice this week, offensive lineman Steve Schilling sprained his knee and is questionable for Saturday. Perry Dorrestein will move to right tackle in his place, keeping Mark Ortmann at left tackle. Quarterback Steven Threet did not practice yesterday, but Rodriguez will be watching him today to monitor his progress. Nick Sheridan is set to start his third straight game with rookie Justin Feagin listed as the backup unless Threet becomes available.
The Q&A session concluded with a question about a comment Rodriguez made at Monday's weekly press conference that has pervaded the media airwaves the last two days. When asked if his "get a life" comment was taken out of context, Rodriguez responded:
"[It] wasn't directed at our fans, at the Michigan fans, it was directed in a general quote. It's only a small faction of people. The majority of college fans are great. They've helped make the game what it is. It's just the people ... who write things about players and coaches, even other teams, that are off-base and you're thinking 'Geez, I don't really think that should be something that's written out there.' And again, that's just my opinion, just like they state their opinion, I'm stating my opinion. So I don't know why there's a big deal made out of that. It certainly wasn't directed at our fans; our fans are terrific."
