Hittin' The Hardwood with Roni Hicks ...
THURSSDAY, Dec.18 -- Digging Deeper
So we have saddled up again since mylast blog. I had no idea our last meeting was so long. I promise to keep it short and sweet this week. I do not want to deter anyone from their Christmas shopping *smile*.
Last Wednesday (Dec.10), we competed against Notre Dame. The Notre Dame-Michigan rivalry began, like many of the other Michigan traditions, with football. Since we are all playing under the Block M, we sort of carry the traditions with us. Two years ago when Notre Dame came to Crisler the Wolverines fell just short in the final minute of the game. Last year, in South Bend, we suffered one of our worst losses of the season.
But, THIS YEAR we battled through, in what seemed like a fairy tale ending. Our fourth-ranked opponent of the season, following a disappointing loss to the Blue Devils, and they just happened to be the Notre Dame Fighting Irish!
Needless to say, we wanted that win badly. And so we played in our first overtime game of the season and WON. We were all very ecstatic. If you were able to attend, thank you-- I know it was entertaining. I commend my teammates and special shout-out to our point guard Jess Minnfield for making the basket to send the game to overtime!
We had been playing a grueling schedule and with hardly any recovery time. So this week we had a break. We have been able to recoup and study for finals. I am so thankful to God for bringing me through this semester and my last two exams this past Tuesday.
Now we can all come up for air, before diving deeper into the season and started Big Ten play. Speaking of the Big Ten--kudos to our very own Stephany Skrba for receiving the honor of Big Ten Player of the Week. She is a fierce competitor and is very deserving. Our senior class is really stepping up in a major way. We have one more non-conference game against Cincinnati this Friday (Dec. 19). Come on down to Crisler and check it out. We surely appreciate everyone and their support.
This Sunday we begin Big Ten play against the Number One team in the conference, Ohio State. They have talent and tradition and we want to be in that moment and it is coming at the perfect time on our schedule!
The football rivalry also feeds our fire. If you are a Michigan Man or Woman you just cannot, and I mean CAN NOT, deny the intense rivalry against the Buckeyes. Its time for all of us to turn up the intensity and capitalize on these moments. I will be back next week with a special holiday post.
Be safe and until next time,
Exodus 14:14
