Tonight's game marked the 100th contest in which Danny Fardig has appeared for the Maize and Blue. The junior has accumulated a 7-9-16 line in his three years.
Michigan is 29-16-4 all-time against the Wildcats, and 13-10-1 when facing them in Yost Ice Arena.
The Maize and Blue has a 10-2-1 record at home during the season.
The three-game winless (0-1-2) skid is Michigan's longest of the 2007-08 campaign. Michigan went winless in three consecutive games late last season with two losses wrapped around a tie from Feb. 9-16.
Michigan has played to overtime in its last two games marking the first time it's needed extra time in consecutive games since a three-game span from Feb. 18-25, 2006, when U-M went 0-1-2. The last time the Wolverines had back-to-back ties dates back to the same timeframe -- U-M earned ties on Feb. 18 and 24.
In his 24 years behind the bench for U-M, head coach Red Berenson has had a player reach the 40-point plateau each season. With a goal and an assist in tonight's contest, Kevin Porter has racked up 41 points (23-18-41) during the 2007-08 campaign.
Porter's third-period tally gives the captain 75 goals in his career as a Wolverine.
With the power-play marker, Porter has accrued a nation's-best 13 goals with the man advantage during the season. The tally moves Porter into a three-way tie with Mark Kosick (1998-2001) and Ted Kramer (1989-92) for 10th place on U-M's career PPG list.
With the tie, Michigan is now 16-0-1 when Porter scores a goal.
With his assist, Steve Kampfer ended a five-game scoreless skid. The rearguard is second on the defenseman points list with a 2-10-12 line.
Max Pacioretty's power-play goal gives the left winger back-to-back game with a tally on the man advantage.
Michigan allowed a shorthanded marker for just the second time this season.
For the first time in 10 starts, Billy Sauer allowed more than two goals. In 25 contests, Sauer has only permitted three or more goals in six games.
Prior to the game, Berenson announced that freshman defenseman Kevin Quick has been dismissed from the team.

Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "You have to give (Northern Michigan) credit because they kept us off balance. For the first 10 minutes, we were on our heels, we weren't as sharp, they were taking it to us, and it could have been 2-0 or 3-0 in the first 10 minutes. Then I thought that the last seven or eight minutes we started to play better and then for the most part we were in the game and we were playing well. The game comes down to mistakes and penalties."
On the tie ... "We're disappointed, absolutely. This is a home game against a team you're ahead of in the standings, and you have to find a way to win that game."
On what he told the team after the game ... "I told them we need to get off to a better start. I know we played two emotional weekends the past two weekends against good teams and we played well."
Michigan Senior Forward Chad Kolarik
On the slow start ... "We did not come prepared. We just did not do it today. We were a little loose in the locker room, and we like to be a little loose, but not that loose. We took it for granted."
On how the team can get back on track... "We have to stick together and play as a team and keep doing what we have done so far. We were 22-2-0 for a reason. We did the right things the first half of the season-- back-checking and fore-checking. Now, we're not back-checking enough, we're getting three-on-twos on us, we're leaving Billy (Sauer) out to dry. Our penalty killing needs to be better and our power play needs to be better; we were losing that battle again tonight."
Michigan Freshman Forward Max Pacioretty
On tonight's game ... "We are disappointed with the effort we put out tonight. We know we should beat that team 10 out of 10 times, but tonight we came out slow and it really showed that we weren't prepared to play after a hard weekend like last weekend, so we have to be really focused to get back and be ready for tomorrow."
On overcoming the recent adversity ... "Tomorrow we have to show up in the morning, and be ready to get focused for a big game. The biggest game of our season is tomorrow night. So if we come out playing hard the first five minutes, I think we will get right back into our game.
