Madden and junior Andrew Mazlin(Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS) completed Michigan's fourth doubles sweep in six matches this season thanks to an 8-5 decision over Adam Baker and Vijay Paul at No. 3. Mazlin and Madden broke Baker and Paul to go ahead 7-5 and then held serve in the ensuing game to improve to 5-0 in dual-match action. Junior Peter Aarts(Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane HS) continued his spectacular play in singles, earning a commanding 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Dufaux at No. 5 to put Michigan in front 2-0. Aarts leads the team in overall singles victories with 16.
Preston kept the Commodores in contention, as he ended Sroczynski's five-match winning streak with a 7-6(3), 6-3 decision at No. 1. Madden then stepped up and delivered the most important victory of his young career, battling back to beat Alex Zotov 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6 to bring the Wolverines within one point of clinching the team win. Madden has been triumphant in three of his four outings at the sixth position this season.
Maravic also fell behind a set in his match against Cromydas at No. 3, but he stormed back for 6-4 wins in the remaining two frames to clinch the team victory for the Maize and Blue. The third set saw Maravic break Cromydas to go up 5-4 before taking care of his final service game to wrap up the comeback win.
Mazlin went toe to toe with Salcedo for a majority of the match at No. 4. The two were on serve throughout the first two sets, with each player winning in a tiebreaker. The third set was on serve until Mazlin broke Salcedo in the final game to win 6-4.
