AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 5-ranked Texas Tuesday (Feb. 26)at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Wolverines (6-2) surrendered their first doubles point in eight matches this season, and the Longhorns (10-1) claimed victories on five of six singles courts to avenge last year's 5-2 loss to the Maize and Blue in Ann Arbor (Jan. 27, 2007).
The Longhorns posted straight-set victories in the first four singles matches completed to take a 5-0 advantage before senior Matko Maravic(Zagreb, Croatia/V. Gimnazija) picked up his biggest win of the season, a 7-5, 6-3 upset over No. 18-ranked Kellen Damico at No. 2, to give Michigan its only team point. Maravic has won 14 of 18 matches dating back to the fall.
Michigan's No. 1 and No. 3 doubles tandems lost for the first time this year, allowing Texas to take a 1-0 lead.
