ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The dedication game for the Wilpon Softball Complex, home to Alumni Field, is scheduled for Friday, April 25, when the University of Michigan softball team hosts intrastate rival Michigan State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative pennant, and all fans are asked to wear maize apparel for a Maize Out.
Tickets for the event are still available but in limited quantities and confined to the outfield bleachers. They are available for purchase via the Michigan Ticket Office at 866-296-MTIX (6249) or online at www.mgoblue.com/tickets. Prices are from $3 for students and $5 for adults.
The Wolverines' facility received a complete makeover after the close of the 2007 season, with renovations to provide fans with a cozy viewing environment that establishes the park as one of the nation's elite sites for competition. Modernizations to the new baseball and softball complex were funded largely by the Judy and Fred Wilpon Family Foundation, which covered $4 million of the $5.5 million softball project.
Additions to Alumni Field include a new indoor hitting facility, press box and media facility, restrooms, concession area, and seating accommodations. U-M inserted an impressive 1,800-seat grandstand complemented by outfield bleachers holding an additional 1,000 seats. The two constructs double the capacity of a stadium that has hosted countless sellout crowds over its tenure.
The allotment also provided for the expansion of the Donald R. Shepherd Softball Building that sits behind the stadium, featuring a larger athletic training space and team gathering room, as well as the establishment of a pedestrian plaza at the park's entrance.
