Moodie and Silva compete in 2008 Olympics

BEIJING, China -- Sophomore Natasha Moodie(Miramar, Fla./Miramar) and Valeria Silva (2004-08) of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team both competed at the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing,Chinathis past week. Silva made her second Olympic appearance for Peru and Moodie made her first for Jamaica.
Moodie competed in the 50-meter freestyle. Despite swimming a personal-best time of 25.95 and breaking her own Jamaican national record of 26.09 that she set earlier this year, Moodie failed to advance past the preliminary round, finishing fifth in her heat and 37th overall. Moodie's time also broke the Michigan women's 50-meter freestyle record of 25.98 which was held by Shannon Shakespeare (1997-2000).
Silva swam in the 100-meter breaststroke for the second straight Olympics, beating her own Peruviannational record of 1:11.90 with a new personal-best time of 1:11.64, but was unable to advance past the preliminary round, finishing second in her heat and 38th overall C one place behind her 2004 finish in Athens.
