Men's Track and Field
Former Michigan sprinter Stann Waithe (2004-06, '08), in his first Olympics, combined with his Trinidad and Tobago teammates to run a 3:04.12 in the second 4x400-meter relay heat Friday night in Beijing. Unfortunately, Waithe and his quartet failed to qualify for the final as the relay team finished fifth in its heat and 13th overall.

Today concludes the competition for Michigan affiliated athletes. U-M affiliated athletes combined for nine gold medals (Michael Phelps 8, swimming; Peter Vanderkaay, swimming), one silver medal (Betsey Armstrong, water polo) and two bronze medals (Nick Willis, athletics; Peter Vanderkaay, swimming).
