Williams, Harmsen Named to USTFCCA All-Academic List

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Wednesday (August 6) that senior Lex Williams(Ann Arbor, Mich. /Dexter HS) and fifth-year senior Dan Harmsen(Rockford, Mich. /Rockford HS) of the University of Michigan men's track and field team were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team for 2008.
An athlete must carry at least a 3.5 GPA and be a qualifier for national championships in order to be eligible for the all-academic team. Williams became eligible during the indoor season when he earned national-qualifying times in both the 3000-meters and the 5000-meters. Harmsen, a 2008 All-American, qualified as part of the Michigan 4x400-meter relay team that finished fourth at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
A record total of 267 student-athletes representing 112 Division I institutions made up the men's 2008 All-Academic team.
