
Wolverines Elect Six Captains for 2009 Spring Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team elected its captains for the 2009 season, head coach Mark Rothstein announced on Wednesday (Jan. 14). The group includes fifth-year senior Karen Colwell(Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington), senior Laura Dunn(Andover, Mass./Pomfret School [Conn.]), senior Ashley Jones(Oakland, Calif./Skyline), senior Ashley Kroll(Edmonds, Wash./Kamiak), senior/junior Michela Musto(Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) and senior Casey Timmons(Brighton, Mich./Hartland).
Colwell, Dunn (coxswain) and Kroll were members of U-M's first varsity eight that earned an at-large bid to the 2008 NCAA Championships and finished 11th overall. Colwell received All-America first team honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association in 2008. Additionally, she earned All-Big Ten first team laurels. Dunn was a CRCA All-Central Region second team honoree a season ago.
Jones and Timmons contributed to the Wolverines' second varsity eight and first varsity four, respectively, during the 2008 campaign. Musto sat out last season due to injury.
The Maize and Blue's spring season gets underway on March 28 when it travels to Princeton, N.J. , to race nationally-respected programs in Princeton and Brown.
