I'm taking a class this semester through the Sweetland Writing Center called the Rhetoric of Blogging. Basically, we just learn about online blogs, and we start our own blog as a little project for the class. It's an interesting class. After I graduate from school, I want to go into sports media -- something in TV, radio or journalism. Everyone I have talked to has said that it is shifting toward the internet, so I thought this would be a great class just to learn everything. I figured it would really help me out in the long run.
I've written some stuff on my own in the past -- just for myself and some stuff through school. Other than that, my mom has always had me writing a lot from the time I was little through high school. She teaches writing, so I have been a pretty good writer since I was a little kid.
I don't read too many other blogs. Obviously, we've been reading them in class now, but there aren't any that I would go to every day.
With my blog, I'm planning to write about wrestling, my experience in wrestling and what we're doing here at Michigan. As we move into the season, it will probably be more of what we are doing traveling-wise, what we are doing to get ready, how I'm feeling and my thoughts about the season. I think in a way it will be good for me too -- to get what I am feeling down on paper. It will really give people an inside perspective.
I've been doing it for about 2-3 weeks now. It's been getting easier as I go on, and I've been getting a lot quicker at it. It's different writing than what I'm used to, because it is not very long. You don't brainstorm or plan it out; it's just quick and short way to get my thoughts down. I feel like I am getting better with it, and I feel like I am really beginning to develop a style and a voice. I've gotten a lot of hits for the first few weeks, but I think it's probably just due to my mom and dad.
