WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7 -- The Comeback Kid
Hello wolverine fans! As I'm sure most of you know, last weekend was the Michigan vs. Michigan State football game -- an intense rivalry. As I sat down to watch the second half of the game -- yes, unfortunately only the second half because of a morning practice -- I was in disbelief. I had expected to see the Wolverines on top, but they were losing and not by just a few. I was just about to give up hope when suddenly, with less than five minutes left, we started making a comeback. The players kept fighting and tied the game up with only a few seconds to spare. Unfortunately we lost in overtime, but the comeback showed what a bit of fight can do.
The football game reminded me a lot of soccer; a team can have an off day and fall behind on the scoreboard, but if they continue to fight there is a good chance they will make a comeback. Northwestern did this against us on Sunday. We were playing well and went up 2-0 early in the second half. After we scored our second goal we weren't in the game mentally. The two goal cushion we had made us a bit too comfortable. We stopped pressuring as hard as we were before our goal, which allowed our opponents to break us down and get back into the game. They scored twice within ten minutes. It was a huge wakeup call for us. Once we realized what had just happened we refocused and fought back. After two overtimes, the game ended in a tie.
This game was a good learning experience for the team. It taught us that we can't get complacent if we get ahead; we have to keep pushing throughout the entire game. I think our team has the ability to fight back, we want to win and we'll give whatever it takes to get there. Hopefully we'll come out of East Lansing with a Blue victory. HAIL!
