FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Senior defenseman Steve Kampfer (Jackson, Mich.) and junior goalie Bryan Hogan (Highland, Mich.) of the University of Michigan ice hockey team received CCHA Player of the Week recognition on Monday (Nov. 30) after the Wolverines swept the College Hockey Showcase last weekend, beating Minnesota, 6-0, on Friday (Nov. 27) and No. 15 Wisconsin, 3-2, on Saturday (Nov. 28). Kampfer was named CCHA Defenseman of the Week, while Hogan earned CCHA Goalie of the Week.
Kampfer had three assists and finished with a +3 plus/minus rating during the College Hockey Showcase. Kampfer began the weekend with a season-high two assists against the Golden Gophers and also had a game-high +3 rating. Against the Badgers on Nov. 28, Kampfer had one assist, blocked three shots and had an even rating. This is the first CCHA Player of the Week laurel of his career. The senior rearguard has six assists, a +4 rating and 16 blocks on the season.
Hogan recorded 24 saves against Minnesota for his first shutout of the season and the fourth blanking of his career. The netminder was a key component of U-M's penalty-killing unit, which stopped all seven Gopher power plays. Hogan made a career-high 39 saves as the Wolverines edged the Badgers Saturday night. This is Hogan's second CCHA Goalie of the Week award; his first came on Dec. 29, 2008, after backstopping U-M to a Great Lakes Invitational title.
Michigan hits the road this weekend (Fri-Sat., Dec. 4-5) to take on Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. Friday's match will start at 7:05 p.m. at Value City Arena. The rematch is set for 8:05 p.m. on Saturday.
