
Paz, Zimmerman Lauded With AVCA All-Region Honors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan volleyball junior setter Lexi Zimmerman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and senior outside hitter Juliana Paz (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Iowa Western CC) were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Mideast Region team, the AVCA announced Wednesday (Dec. 9).
Zimmerman's selection marks the third straight season she has been honored by the AVCA. With their selections, Zimmerman and Paz are now eligible for the AVCA All-America team, which will be announced Dec. 15.
Zimmerman, one of eight unanimous selections, leads the conference with 1,358 total assists, ranking third in the Big Ten with 11.04 per set. A 2008 first team selection and the 2007 Region Freshman of the Year, she is the first U-M player to earn three straight All-Region team honors.
Paz earns All-Region honors for the first time in her career. She has started every match and played in every set this year for the Wolverines while ranking first in kills and attempts.
The No. 16-ranked Wolverines are among the final 16 teams competing in the NCAA Tournament and will take on No. 4 Stanford in the regional semifinals on Friday (Dec. 11) at 7 p.m. PST in Stanford, Calif.
