ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- This Saturday (Feb. 14) the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team will be participating in "Swim Quick," a national cancer fundraiser named for six-time Olympic swimming coach Richard Quick, at Canham Natatorium.
Quick, who is currently the head coach at Auburn University and has won 12 NCAA titles, was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer last year and has teamed with Swim Across America to create the "Swim Quick" fundraiser to help find a cure for cancer. Local fundraisers will be taking place at pools across the country to help raise money, and all proceeds will go to the Richard Quick Endowment at Swim Across America.
"Coach Quick has been an inspiration to thousands and thousands of swimmers all over the world, and this is an opportunity for us to say thank you and we wish you well," said U-M head coach Mike Bottom.
Canham Natatorium will be hosting "Swim Quick" activities from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday for a $5 donation at the door. Athletes may swim using a posted workout written by Quick or they may create their own workout. All ages are welcome to attend.
