Michigan Wrestling Center Facility Profile
Follow construction at the new wrestling training facility with photos and updates. Scheduled to be completed in fall of 2009, the Michigan Wrestling Center is a $5.5 million, 18,000-gross-square-foot building that will include a two-story indoor practice area with three regulation wrestling mats. It also will feature athletic medicine areas, strength and conditioning space, a locker room and storage area.
| 2/16/09 :: Construction Site The wrestling training facility broke ground in October 2008 and workers immediately went to work to lay the foundation. Here, a week before the steel went up, the footings are in place. | 3/4/09 :: Exterior The new Wolverine training center will be among only a handful of stand-alone wrestling facilities in the country and, at 18,000 gross square feet, will also be among the largest. | |
| 3/4/09 :: Exterior A view from the southwest corner of the building. The facility is going up adjacent to the Preston Robert Tisch Tennis and the Donald R. Shepherd Women's Gymnastics facilities on South State Street. The gymnastics building can be seen in the background. | 4/20/09 :: Exterior A view from the building's left front corner of the completed masonry work that surrounds the bottom half of the facility's exterior. The large gap will be where the protruding entrance vestibule and lobby are built. | |
| 4/20/09 :: Aerial View An aerial shot shows the final stages of roof construction as well as the completed masonry work around the building's exterior. The building should be completely enclosed within a few weeks. | 5/22/09 :: Exterior With nearly all of the exterior work complete, the focus is on the building's entrance lobby and vestibule, which will include floor-to-ceiling glass. A full ring of windows will also replace the gap between the roof and siding. |
