On April 16th, seniors Amy Klippert and Kylie Neschke , senior/junior Alex Jendrusch and junior Jackie Carron were introduced as the captains for the 2009 Michigan women's soccer team. Over the next four weeks, MGoBlue.com will sit down with each of them to discuss everything from wearing the yellow armband, summer plans and the expectations of the 2009 Wolverines.
Next to don the captains armband is Jendrusch. The senior/junior midfielder will be turned to as the leader off the bench for the Maize and Blue. A three-time U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award recipient, Jendrusch has made 10 appearances for the Wolverines. She is majoring in Sport Management with a minor in international studies and earned Academic All-Big Ten during the 2007 season.
On being named captain
It means a lot to me. I will do everything I can to make practices, games, and traveling together really enjoyable while we're also working hard together to be a successful team.
On the type of leadership she brings
I try to lead by example by working hard all the time and try to be a voice of encouragement for others both on and off the field.
On what word will epitomize the 2009 Wolverines
Forward. We have all new fields and a team and coaching staff that is willing to work hard to improve our play every day.
On why she wears No. 6
I was No. 9 my whole life, but when I came to Michigan as a freshman, Skylar Andrews already had that number. So I flipped that nine upside down!
On her summer plans
Mostly just living, working, and working out in Ann Arbor. Also, taking a few trips here and there with friends. I went to Chicago last weekend and am going up north for the Fourth of July with my best friends and camping with my family at the end of July.
On her best Michigan soccer memory
Preseason on Jekyll Island last August. It was a lot of soccer and a lot of time together, but I have a lot of good memories from those couple of weeks with the team.
On her pregame rituals
Listening to some country music on my iPod.
On the best place to get a pregame meal on campus
Panera has great options for energizing pregame food.
On plans after graduation
Travel! I would also like to work with a pro sports team, maybe in the NHL because I love hockey.
