ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team will open the 2010 season against the University of Connecticut on Sept. 4 at Michigan Stadium. It will be the first game played in newly renovated Michigan Stadium.
"We are excited about the prospect of facing Connecticut in the 2010 season opener," said head coach Rich Rodriguez. "I have known Randy Edsell for many years and know that he will bring an outstanding, well-coached team into the Big House."
The Wolverines will return the game in 2013, playing the Huskies at Rentschler Field on Sept. 21. The off-campus venue in East Hartford, Conn., is owned by the State of Connecticut and seats 40,000 fans.
"We are excited about the opportunity to play in front of our fan base in the East and about the chance to bring in a BCS opponent to Michigan Stadium," said director of athletics Bill Martin. "In addition, we are one of the few BCS conference teams in the country that will face two BCS schools during the non-conference season."
This will be the first time that Michigan plays on the East Coast since its home-and-home series with Boston College in 1994 and 1995. The Wolverines won both affairs, a 34-26 game against the Eagles at Michigan Stadium in 1994 and 23-13 game in Chestnut Hill during the 1995 season.
The last time U-M played in the Northeast was during the 1999 season, an 18-13 victory against Syracuse at the Carrier Dome (Sept. 18). The Wolverines have compiled a 14-6-1 record all-time against teams that were members of the Big East at the time the game was played.
