
Teammates, Coaches Select Millman as Captain

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's golf head coach Andrew Sapp announced today (Tuesday, Aug. 25) that senior Ross Millman(St. Louis, Mo./Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day) has been chosen as the team captain for the 2009-10 season.
"We are very pleased to announce Ross Millman as our captain for 2009-2010," said Sapp. "Through the nomination process he received tremendous support from his teammates and that made the choice very easy. Ross has shown leadership on and off the golf course and is completely prepared for this roll. Ross's maturity and passion for Michigan will serve him and his teammates well. Coach Whitten and I look forward to working with Ross as the team's captain."
"Being named captain this year by my teammates and coaches is a tremendous honor," said Millman. "There is an aura around Michigan athletics, and to have the ability to help lead a Michigan team to another championship run will be something I will forever cherish. We have an opportunity to do something very special this year and as captain it is my responsibility to get all 10 players committed to our goals."
After playing in just two events his first two seasons, Millman burst onto the scene in his third year in Ann Arbor, starting eight events during the 2008-09 season and averaging a career-best 75.14 strokes per round. He fired a career-best, two-under 69 in the second round of the Wolverine Intercollegiate, helping him to a career-best, 54-hole total of 213. He closed the season with three top-25 individual finishes.
Millman, who is enrolled in U-M's prestigious Ross School of Business, recently became the 10th Wolverine in program historyto be named aprestigious Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar recipient for Division I by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA).
Last season, he also helped the Wolverines to two team titles -- the Wolf Run Intercollegiate and the Wolverine Intercollegiate -- as well as a runner-up finish at the inaugural Big Ten Match Play Championships, where he went 2-1. The Wolverines garnered their second straight trip to an NCAA Regional last season, where they moved on to the NCAA Finals for the first time in 12 years. U-M advanced to the team match play finals before losing in the semifinal round.
