MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team fell by a 6-0 tally at Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday (Aug. 28) in the first game of the Milwaukee Cup on Engelmann Field. The game was tied at halftime before the Panthers opened up their offense in the second half.
Junior/sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Keane (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) made one save before sophomore/freshman Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lasher) posted three stops in relief duty. Freshman Eunnie Kim (Hubley, Nova Scotia/Sir John A MacDonald) had three shots, one on goal, for the Wolverines.
After the teams battled through an even first half, Milwaukee was quick to gain advantage in the second stanza, needing just under six minutes to generate the first two markers of the contest, scoring on a pair of headers off corner kicks. The Panthers then padded their lead with four goals in 10 minutes spanning the 65th to 75th minutes.
Michigan will look to rebound when it takes on Marquette on Sunday (Aug. 30) for the second game of the Milwaukee Cup. First touch is slated for 1 p.m. CDT.
