ANN ABROR, Mich. -- Freshman Holly Hein (Castaic, Calif./West Ranch) racked up a goal and two assists and sophomore/freshman goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lasher) posted a clean slate to help the University of Michigan women's soccer team roll past Oakland, 3-0, on Wednesday evening (Sept. 16) at the U-M Soccer Complex.
Kopmeyer made seven saves in the shutout, while Hein chipped in on all three U-M goals with her score and two assists. All three active U-M captains notched points, with seniors Amy Klippert (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) and Alex Jendrusch (Troy, Mich./Athens) denting the twine and junior Jackie Carron (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) adding an assist.
Hein got the Wolverines started on their first set play within striking distance of the box, heading home a Carron free kick in the 11th minute. Michigan added to its lead just before the break, going up 2-0 in the 44th minute on Jendrusch's second goal in as many home games. Hein took a throw in and slipped through two defenders, sending a pass to the Wolverine captain five yards out, where Jendrusch chipped a low shot under the diving OU goalkeeper.
The Wolverines put the game out of reach in the 61st minute on a series of one-touch passes that ended with a Klippert shot gliding into the net. The shutout came under attack with 10 minutes remaining when Oakland crowded the box and took several cracks at the ball, but Kopmeyer made two saves to cap the 30-second flurry and maintain the shutout.
The Wolverines conclude the non-conference schedule with a home game against Miami (Fla.) on Sunday (Sept. 20) at 2 p.m. at the U-M Soccer Complex.

N O T E S
The Wolverines upped their record against teams from the state of Michigan to 5-0-2 under second year head coach Greg Ryan. Michigan is 3-0-0 against intrastate foes this season with Michigan State (Oct. 11) the only remaining Great Lakes state opponent.
U-M improved to 8-3-1 all-time against Oakland.
With the victory, the Wolverines improved to 4-5 on the season, matching their win total of a season ago. Michigan was 4-10-5 in its first season under Greg Ryan.
Freshman Haley Kopmeyer recorded her first career shutout.
The blanking of Oakland is U-M's first shutout since a 2-0 win over Ohio State on Oct. 12, 2008. Madison Gates (2005-08) made five saves in the shutout of Ohio State.
Senior Amy Klippert recorded her fourth career goal against a team from the state of Michigan. Klippert scored against Eastern Michigan (Sept. 6) earlier this season and twice against the Eagles during the 2008 campaign.
Klippert matched her single-season, career high from 2008 with her second goal of the season tonight.
Freshman Holly Hein set a career high with four points today. Her goal and two assist eclipsed her previous high of two points against Eastern Michigan (Sept. 6)
Hein's point total matched junior Jackie Carron's four-point game against Eastern Michigan (Sept. 6) for the team high on the campaign.
Q U O T E S
Michigan Head Coach Greg Ryan
On the play of Haley Kopmeyer ... "(Haley Kopmeyer) has really been coming on. She had an early-season injury, so she wasn't really on her game. But recently, she has been playing well; against USC and had a couple of big saves tonight."
On the team's play ... "I think tonight, coming off of that California trip and playing on short rest three days later, we were just gassed. I felt bad for them and told them at halftime that you are working so hard but just don't have the legs tonight. We switched formations and played a little simpler. Overall, I thought they did really well considering they were gassed. I thought they held up as well as possible."
U-M Sophomore/Freshman Goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer
On the shutout ... "It feels good. A win is a win, it just makes it a little bit better that it was a shutout. I am just happy to get the 'W', really."
On the play of the defense ... "As we have got more and more comfortable with this defense, they are doing a wonderful job. It is so nice having that group in front of me. They are making my job so easy, all I have to do is jump up and tip a ball over the bar. They are doing an awesome job."
On the flurry with 10 minutes remaining ... "That is a time when I am screaming and my voice gets horse. Everyone is tired and (Oakland) just wants to get one on the board, so you just have to keep yelling and make some big saves to keep your team in it."
