Michigan Loses Second-Half Lead, Defeated by No. 16 Louisville in OT

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team suffered an overtime defeat for the second day in a row as No. 16 Louisville topped U-M, 3-2, on Sunday (Sept. 20). Michigan overcame an early Cardinal goal to take a 2-1 lead a few minutes into the second half. However, UL would tie the game and score the decisive goal seven minutes into overtime.

Meredith Way
Senior Alex Zeringue (Fallbrook, Calif./Union) tallied U-M's first goal of the day at 24:24 off a crossing pass from junior Alicia Mayer (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove). Junior Meredith Way's (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) fourth goal of the season put Michigan on top, 2-1, at 47:31. Unfortunately, the Cardinals capitalized on a penalty corner just two minutes later to force overtime.
Louisville's Kayla May tallied the game-winner by redirecting a pass in at 77:01.
U-M returns to Ann Arbor next weekend to open the Big Ten Conference season. The Wolverines host Iowa at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25. The game will be televised by the Big Ten Network. The weekend concludes with a match vs. Penn State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.
