MADISON, Wis. -- Playing through wind, rain and a day-one suspension of the second round, the University of Michigan women's golf team played 27 holes today (Monday, Sept. 28) and closed 10th with a 920 team total at the Lady Northern Invitational at the University Ridge Golf Course.
With rains in the forecast for yesterday's 36-hole day one, the 15-team field motored through the first round as the Wolverines carded an opening 308 tally, which was paced by senior captain Ashley Bauer's (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) one-over 73. As gray clouds started to well up, the field was called off the course in the second round with some teams having as many as nine holes remaining. With no clearing in site, the Lady Northern was then called for the day.
The Wolverines got off to an early start in today's second round continuation and used the extra rest to rally for a 300, as Ashley Bauer, senior Andrea Ratigan (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino HS) and junior Min Yean Tan (Queensland, Australia/Hills International College) each fired two-over 74s. As winds picked up in the final round, scores elevated as U-M finished with a 312 team total to finish with a 54-hole tally of 920.
For the seventh straight tournament, Ashley Bauer finished as the top Wolverine, closing in a tie for 11th at 222. An additional three Wolverines gave U-M four among the top 50 individually in the 89-player field as Tan tied for 37th at 232 (79-74-79), sophomore Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) tied for 42nd at 233 (77-78-78) and Ratigan tied for 46th at 236 (79-74-83).
Junior Katelin Davis (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) and freshman Caramia Sitompul (Jakarta, Indonesia/Bradenton Prep Academy [Fla.]) rounded out the Wolverine starters as Davis tied for 66th at 240 and Sitompul tied for 87th at 252 in her first collegiate event.
The Wolverines have little time to rest as they will head out to Chicago, Ill., on Sunday to play in Northwestern's Windy City Collegiate. The 54-hole event will be held Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 5-6) at the Glen Club.
