Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On the game ... "You're disappointed to get behind like that. Penalties played a big role in this game. The momentum went one way or another. There's controversy. It's too bad there has to be controversy. Was the puck in? Wasn't it in? Should it have been a penalty or not? It's too bad. The players should be deciding these games. I didn't think our team played very well at the outset of the game. We played better as the game went on and got ourselves back in the game. We have to play better than that in the first period if you are going to come in here and put a team like that on their heels, and we didn't do that."
On Michigan's disallowed goal near the end of the game ... "I can't tell you. The way the players explained it was that [Michigan State's goalie] covered the puck for a split-second and then a player hit it before the whistle. The referee either blew the whistle or intended to blow the whistle. He's right there."
On Michigan's slow start ... "It looked like we were not sleepwalking, but we weren't playing at the level that we have to play at against a good team like this. I don't know why. That's a good question."
On which Michigan players played well tonight ... "When you lose you don't have a lot of players that have good games. I thought [goalie Bryan] Hogan kept us in the game. He definitely gave us a chance in the first half of the game. You know you're going to need your goalie on the road, and he gave us that."
U-M Senior Defenseman Chris Summers
On Michigan's penalties ... "It's been an issue all year, and it's something we have been trying to get away from but obviously not tonight. It's huge for any game, especially when you get into a penalty battle with another team that has a good power play like Michigan State. It was trouble for us. I think we let it get the best of us tonight. Hopefully, it won't happen again tomorrow night."
On taking momentum from tonight to tomorrow ... "Our power play started clicking. I thought we were good in their defensive zone, our offensive zone. We can definitely build off of it. It's an emotional game, and it's going to be another emotional battle tomorrow night."
