Series Notes
The Wolverines advance to 22-17-5 against the Spartans at Joe Louis Arena, which also came as their fifth consecutive win against their arch-rivals in Detroit.
The Maize and Blue snapped a three-game losing streak against the Spartans, and move to 134-121-18 overall when facing the Green and White.
Michigan has picked up at least one win in 11 of the past 12 seasons against MSU. The last time they failed to do so came in the 2005-06 season, when they went 0-2-3.
The last time Michigan and Michigan State both scored at least four goals dates all the way back to Nov. 3, 2006, when Michigan State triumphed 7-4.
Team Notes
Six Wolverines recorded multi-point games tonight: Chris Summers (1-1-2), Brian Lebler (1-1-2), Carl Hagelin (0-2-2), Matt Rust (1-1-2), Chris Brown (1-1-2), and A.J. Treais (1-1-2).
The Wolverines have tallied three first period goals 10 times this season. The last time the U-M accomplished this feat was Jan. 15, 2010, against Alaska.
Player Notes
Senior forward Brian Lebler tied his single-season record for goals at nine, a feat he achieved in the 2008-2009 season. Lebler also celebrated his golden anniversary for career points (50) with his goal in tonight's contest.
Senior captain Chris Summers (1-1-2) had a goal and an assist tonight, yielding his second multi-point game of the season. Of his seven career multi-point efforts, four of them have come against Michigan State.
Freshman forwards A.J. Treais (1-1-2), Chris Brown (1-1-2), and Kevin Lynch (0-1-1) all garnered their first point in the rivalry against Michigan State.
Streaks and Peaks
Treais obtained his first career multi-point game with a goal and an assist tonight.
