BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team used a goal in the first five minutes of each half to knock off Indiana, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 17) at Armstrong Stadium. The Wolverines, who won back-to-back conference games for the first time since 2006, have gone undefeated in the Big Ten over their last four games (2-0-2).

Amanda Bowery
Senior Amanda Bowery (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) dented the twine five minutes into the game and junior/sophomore Clare Stachel (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) found pay dirt less than five minutes from the start of the second half to give the Maize and Blue the edge. Junior/sophomore Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lahser) made six saves in goal.
The Wolverines came out swinging, scoring the game's first goal just 4:54 into the opening half. Senior Jackie Carron (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) corralled a clearing attempt off her own corner kick and chipped a pass to Bowery, who remained set up on the back post. Bowery made a quick play on the ball, flipping it over the IU goalkeepers' head.
Michigan was again quick on the draw in the second half, extending its lead to 2-0 less than five minutes into the half. Stachel got on the end of a long cross from freshman Shelina Zadorsky (London, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) in the middle of the box. In the midst of a scrum in the goal mouth, Stachel found the ball and deposited the insurance goal. The extra score proved valuable after the Hoosiers broke through on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute to pull within a 2-1 margin of the Wolverines.
The Maize and Blue continues its three-game road swing at Minnesota on Friday (Oct. 22) in Minneapolis, Minn. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. CDT.

NOTES
• Michigan improved to 11-4-3 all-time against Indiana.
• The Wolverines, who defeated Purdue 2-1 on Thursday (Oct. 14), swept the weekend series with Indiana and Purdue for the fourth time. Michigan swept the Hoosiers and Boilermakers weekend in 1999, 2001 and 2004. Each of those Maize and Blue squads made it to the NCAA Tournament.
• With the victory, U-M bettered its record to 7-2-4 on the season, surpassing last season's win total.
• The Wolverines earned their second win of the Big Ten season, giving them multiple conference wins for the first time since going 4-3-3 during the 2006 campaign.
• Senior Jackie Carron became the 16th player in program history to start 70 games. Carron has been in the starting lineup for every game of her career.
• Senior Amanda Bowery's first-half goal gives her 43 career points. Bowery leapfrogged past Amy Sullivant (42, 1999-2002) into 13th on the U-M career list.
• Bowery has collected points in consecutive games for the second time this season. Bowery, who had an assist against Purdue (Oct. 14), also registered back-to-back games with a point against Toledo (Sept. 10) and UMass (Sept. 17).
• Junior/sophomore Clare Stachel scored for the second time in as many games, matching her rookie season's goal total in the process.
• Stachel scored both game-winning goals this weekend, adding today's deciding marker to the winner against Purdue on Thursday (Oct. 14).
