Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's win ... "We got the lead and we didn't give up much. When you only give up one goal you have a chance to win."
On the importance of the penalty killing ... "It had to be big. It's disappointing that we took or were called. We have some good experienced penalty killers and I thought they did a great job. The one thing that everyone does is try to pressure the puck. If we do a good job of that we'll sometimes even get turnovers and scoring chances. I think our in-zone play is pretty good. This is a tough time of year for power plays to really get going because they're just starting to get confidence. I think it's easier to be a good PK team this time of year."
On Kevin Lynch's goal to put U-M ahead 3-1 ... "That was a huge goal. It was a real smart play by Jon Merrill, shooting it on the ice and getting it past the penalty killer and to Lynch. Huge goal for us, it gave us a two-goal lead and that's important."
U-M Senior Center Matt Rust
On the keys to tonight's win ... "I think the one thing we did well was we started out strong. In our first four or five shifts we matched their intensity. We knew that they were going to come out strong, hitting. Transitions are really fast and you have to be ready for a fast game. One thing we didn't do well was our penalties; I'm guilty of that myself. We have to find ways to stay out of the box. We're killing way too many penalties."
On Kevin Lynch's goal ... "It's definitely a momentum booster. That power play unit was working well all night long; they were getting shots through from the point. It's finally rewarding to see something you work so hard on in practice every day work in a game. I think the guys got some confidence out of that. I think we started to swing the game in our favor at that point."
