ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior defender Jeffrey Quijano (Canoga Park, Calif./Canoga) of the University of Michigan men's soccer team was named to the College Soccer New National Team of the Week for his efforts in U-M's NCAA second round 2-1 overtime win over Central Florida on Sunday (Nov. 21).
This is Quijano's first career College Soccer NewsNational Team of the Week recognition and he is the first Wolverine to earn the honor this season. Quijano, who has battled injury this season, made his fifth consecutive start Sunday and was a part of the defense that held the Knights to just three shots on goal. He also got involved in the offense, making several long runs from his outside back position and posting a season-best two shots in the Michigan victory.
For his career, Quijano has seen action in 54 games with four goals and three assists, good for 11 career points. As a freshman, he was named to the Michigan Invitational All-Tournament Team and has also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
The Wolverines advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 with the win over UCF and will take on South Carolina at 2 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 28) at Stone Stadium in Columbia, S.C.
