Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On dealing with the steady flow of penalties throughout the game ... "I don't know about the officiating. I don't know if they were calling stuff that they didn't call [Thursday] night. I can tell you that both coaching staffs are frustrated over some of the calls. It seemed like every time they called a penalty on them that they called a penalty on us before the power play even started. I don't know what was going on. It didn't help our team. Then we took ourselves out of the game. The plays that they made that turned into goals were stoppable on our part. It was a little bit of goalkeeping, a little bit of defensive work, a little bit of everything."
On Michigan's numerous scoring chances ... "We had our chances. We didn't score on three breakaways. [Kevin] Lynch gets a breakaway in the third period. The two breakaways in the second period by [Louie] Caporusso and [David] Wohlberg, those are opportunities to tie the game or go ahead, depending on the score at the time. When you come on the road you want to play well defensively, which I think we did for a good part of the game. But the breakdowns cost us. Offensively, you have to put your chances in."
On Shawn Hunwick's confidence after the first two Notre Dame goals ... "He made a couple good saves in the game. Then the goals were goals that normally wouldn't go in. That can happen to anybody, but it happened to him. It's a tough spot to put him in. It's the first game he's had to start, it's on the road and he's never played here, obviously. We gave him a lead and we just couldn't hang onto it.
"The one thing we talked about before the game was that our team was inspired to play harder defensively for a new goalie. This kid works hard every day in practice and he's been a terrific team player and a supporter of [Bryan] Hogan. Now he gets a chance to play and everyone wants to see him do well. He had a good start on Thursday and then tonight didn't finish the way he wanted it to. So we'll see next week."
U-M Sophomore Left Wing David Wohlberg
On his goal ... "I saw [Louie] Caporusso do it the shift before and it seemed like he did it pretty easily. I tried it and got lucky I guess."
On his other two chances around the net ... "On the second breakaway I went to my breakaway and then I remembered that I had already tried that move so I tried to go back and I guess the goalie was just sitting on the goal line for it."
U-M Junior Center Louie Caporusso
On what led to the first period success ... "We kept it simple. We got pucks to the net. I didn't think we had that great of a period. The score showed that we were up 2-0, but they had a lot of great opportunities. [Shawn] Hunwick came up huge for us in the first period. We had to change things in the second period and we didn't."
On his second goal ... "I think that's a pretty high-percentage play. I don't think many people realize that. When you put it along the ice cross-crease you never know what can happen. It can go off a skate or your guy can get to it."
