U-M Inks 27 Student-Athletes to Letters of Intent

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head football coach Rich Rodriguez announced today (Wednesday, Feb. 3) the signing of 27 individuals to binding Letters of Intent during the first day of the signing period. The announcement was made during a press conference held in the Junge Family Champions Center at 3 p.m.
The Wolverines' recruiting class consists of players from nine different states, including 11 student-athletes from the state of Ohio, four from Michigan and three players from Florida and Pennsylvania. U-M gained at least one player at every single position group.

Michigan had four of the top 10 players on The Detroit News Blue Chip list: Devin Gardner (No. 2), Ricardo Miller (4), Jeremy Jackson (8) and Austin White (10). No other school had more than two players listed.
Seven of the signees have already enrolled at the U-M for the Winter 2010 semester: quarterback Devin Gardner, running back Stephen Hopkins, wide receiver Jeremy Jackson, wide receiver Ricardo Miller, offensive lineman Christian Pace, wide receiver Jerald Robinson and running back Austin White.
Defensive back Demar Dorsey was named second team All-USA by USA Today.
Two signees participated in the U.S. Army All-American game: cornerback Cullen Christian and punter William Hagerup.
Demar Dorsey and Devin Gardner participated in the Under Armour All-American game and Jeremy Jackson played in the Hawaii/Polynesia-Mainland game.
Devin Gardner earned Parade Magazine All-America honors and was a five-star prospect according to scout.com.
The Wolverines signed two players on the ESPNU 150: Demar Dorsey (12) and Devin Gardner (128).
Four recruits were listed among the top seven at their respective positions nationally by scout.com: Cullen Christian (No. 3 cornerback), Will Hagerup (No. 4 punter), Devin Gardner (No. 5 quarterback) and Josh Furman (No. 7 safety).
Three Wolverines listed in the top 10 of their positions according to Rivals.com: Devin Gardner (No. 2, dual threat), William Hagerup (No. 3 kicker) and Cullen Christian (No. 8 cornerback).
Wide receiver Jeremy Jackson is the son of U-M running backs coach Fred Jackson. He is the first son of a coach to sign a national letter of intent at Michigan since Jason Carr joined his father, Lloyd, with the Wolverines.
U-M signed a pair of brothers, cornerback Terrence and defensive tackle Terry Talbott, from Wayne High School in Huber Heights, Ohio.
In addition to the Talbott brothers, the Wolverines had Warren G. Harding teammates Davion Rogers and D.J. Williamson join the fold.
Defensive tackle Richard Ash was high school teammates with current U-M players Brandin Hawthorne, Martavious Odoms and Vincent Smith at Pahokee (Fla.).
Linebacker Antonio Kinard played high school football alongside U-M redshirt freshman tailback Fitzgerald Toussaint and redshirt freshman linebacker Isaiah Bell at Youngstown Liberty (Ohio).
Gardner was a teammate of redshirt freshman Cameron Gordon at Inkster High School (Mich.).
A total of 10 recruits attended the Michigan Summer Football Camp: cornerback Courtney Avery, Devin Gardner, Jeremy Jackson, quarterback Cornelius Jones, Ricardo Miller, Christian Pace, Jerald Robinson, Austin White and both Talbott brothers.
Austin White's twin brothers, Myles and Mitchell, play football at Michigan State.
William Hagerup's brother, Chris, and Jibreel Black's brother, Larry, play football at Indiana.
