Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "We were surprised to see that three of their top players weren't dressed. Later we found out that they have the flu. I guess that they have had some flu going around their team. That's unfortunate, but it's also unfortunate that [Bryan] Hogan is not playing as our starting goalie, so it is a trade-off. I thought that their team had the better of the play in the first seven or eight minutes of the first period. We were on our heels. [Shawn] Hunwick made some huge saves and I thought that was a turning point in the game and it kept us in the game. Then we scored the first goal and that was important. Then they scored their first goal and we came back. [Brian] Lebler's goal was huge. When we got the fourth goal, and overall I thought our team got better as the game went on."
On the second period ... "It was good because we cycled the puck down low. We got some chances and kept the puck in. The second period is a hard period to change lines, so the fatigue factor started. They were sucking wind and they couldn't get it out of the zone. We could change and we made some changes on the fly. We had five or six minutes of non-stop play and finally we were rewarded. For all the time we spent in the zone we only scored one goal in that period."
On David Wohlberg's play ... "I think it's a little bit of confidence and a little bit of him feeling better. Physically there is no question that he was handicapped. Whether he had a sore back, or it was this or that, he never was 100 percent. You could see it in his skating. Now you can see he is jumping stronger. With a little bit of luck and hard work you get some results. That's the David Wohlberg we saw all last year and now he is finally feeling healthy enough to play all out."
U-M Senior Defenseman Chris Summers
On Lake Superior's lineup ... "It's important for any game. You kind of take a glance at their lineup before the game. The most important thing to know right now is that the focus is on us. Make sure the guys are focused on the team play. I'm not worried about [the other team], just our style of play."
On if the building had a playoff atmosphere ... "I thought so. Obviously, it was a little quieter tonight without the students being here. You have to find the energy within the team. I think we were more boisterous on the bench, which helped a lot. Just making sure guys are encouraging each other after every shift. Whether it is positive reinforcement or getting on a guy, it's important to make sure that you are staying with the team."
U-M Sophomore Forward David Wohlberg
On gaining the momentum in the series ... "I think we did a good job of that tonight, letting them know that they're not going to have it easy, they had to work hard to get their goals, and it was us proving what we could do at home even without the fans."
On his goal ... "My goal was because of my linemates Luke [Glendening] and Cappy [Louie Caporusso]. We were all working down low, it kind of came out and I banged it home. My play was one of those nights where you just feel the extra surge of energy and I think a lot of guys feel that in the playoffs."
