
Summers Agrees to Terms with Phoenix Coyotes

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Senior defenseman Chris Summers (Milan, Mich.) of the University of Michigan ice hockey team signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday (April 1). Summers was a first-round draft pick (29th overall) of the Coyotes at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and will report to the San Antonio Rampage, the AHL affiliate of Phoenix.
The U-M captain for the 2009-10 season, Summers posted four goals, including two on the power play, and 12 assists for 16 points in 40 games. He had a +5 plus/minus rating, 28 penalty minutes and 37 blocked shots. He missed five games due to injury.
Summers was an alternate captain and then a co-captain as a junior in 2008-09, setting career highs for assists (13) and points (17). As a freshman and sophomore he showed the ability to play forward, skating at left wing for a total of 13 games.
Summers appeared in 163 career games, placing him in a four-way tie for sixth place on the all-time games played list for U-M defensemen. He posted 16 goals and 44 assists for 60 points. Additionally, Summers completed his four seasons with a +66 rating, 157 blocks and 191 penalty minutes.
