ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Vanessa Sekhon (West Vancouver, B.C./Collingwood School) scored two goals and redshirt freshman Haley Jones (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) collected a shutout in her first career start as the University of Michigan field hockey team blanked Central Michigan, 4-0, on Sunday (Sept. 12) at Ocker Field. The Wolverines reached a milestone as the win was the 400th in the program's 38 seasons.

Vanessa Sekhon
The Wolverines jumped out to an early lead when Sekhon received a pass from senior Meredith Way (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and elevated her shot past CMU goalkeeper Anastasia Netto for the 1-0 U-M lead. Michigan kept pressure on CMU, garnering eight penalty corners in the first half but went into the halftime with the one-goal advantage.
Michigan scored its second goal at 45:37 off its 10th corner of the day. Redshirt junior Katie Adams (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) pushed to freshman Rachael Mack (Bromsgrove, England/Bromsgrove School). Netto saved Mack's shot attempt, but junior Bryn Bain (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) controlled the rebound and beat Netto from 10 yards out to give U-M a 2-0 lead. The Wolverines scored just 1:48 later when Mack received a cross from senior Alicia Mayer (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) and beat Netto high for her third goal of the season. The scoring wrapped up at 59:23 as Sekhon scored her second goal of the game and third of the season on a shot from the left side of the circle.
Jones had two saves on the day to preserve the shutout, including one at 42:02 on a corner from CMU's Erin Dye that kept U-M on top 1-0. Michigan had a 12-3 advantage on penalty corners and a 17-7 shot advantage in the game.
Michigan now has an all-time record of 400-295-25, which includes winning the 2001 NCAA Field Hockey championship.
U-M will continue the five-game homestand next Saturday (Sept. 18) against Albany. Game time is at 10 a.m. at Ocker Field.

QUOTES
Michigan Head Coach Marcia Pankratz
On the play of junior back Jess Allen ... "I thought she was poised with the ball today. She made some really smart decisions passing out of the backfield. She played really well and it was nice to see."
On the backfield's play as a whole this weekend ... "I think we are playing really well as a unit, are covering the most dangerous lines and just playing together and communicating. I think that's been really strong and I'm happy with that.'
