Series Notes
The Wolverines are 21-3-1 (.860) against Alaska at Yost Ice Arena and 40-9-1 overall (.810).
Tonight was the 10th shutout for the Maize and Blue in the 50-game series with the Nanooks.
Team Notables
Michigan's win paired with Notre Dame's loss to Ohio State tonight gives the Maize and Blue a two-point lead in the CCHA standings.
Michigan has won four straight games, tying a season best, and eight out of nine, dating back to Dec. 4. U-M has outscored opponents 35-15.
Both goals tonight were scored by defensemen. The Wolverine defensemen have tallied 19 goals and 49 assists, totaling 68 points so far this season.
Michigan has allowed just three first-period goals in the last 10 games. Tonight's game was scoreless through the first 20 minutes.
U-M did not allow a power-play goal for the second consecutive game. UAF was 0-for-4 with the man-advantage.
Streaks and Peaks
With two assists tonight, Carl Hagelin extended his point streak to eight games and has tallied 16 points (6-10-16) during the run. Of his 10 multi-point games this season, seven have occurred during the eight-game point spree.
Matt Rust extended his current assist streak to three games (0-3-3).
Player Notables
With a goal tonight, Lee Moffie became the first U-M defenseman to score in three straight games since Jack Johnson, who registered goals in five straight contests between Jan. 20, 2007 and Feb. 3, 2007.
Jon Merrill's goal was his sixth of the season, which leads all U-M defensemen. His 16 points are tied for the lead among blueliners with Brandon Burlon.
Goaltender Shawn Hunwick made 36 saves for his third shutout of the season. He has four shutouts in his career, all in Ann Arbor.
Hunwick's win was his ninth of the season, setting a career high. He had eight wins a season ago.
