Carmen Reynolds, Courtney Boylan and Jamillya Hardley will provide the inside scoop on a senior's final season as a member of the Michigan women's basketball team.
Hello everybody and welcome to the Senior Blog! Courtney (Boylan), Jamillya (Hardley) and I (Carmen Reynolds) will be periodically blogging, so you can get the inside scoop on the Michigan women's basketball team. It'll be hard to compete with my former teammate's "Hittin' the Hardwood" with Veronica Hicks, but we will try our best!
It's unbelievable that this is our fourth and final season here at Michigan. Time sure did fly by! I am so thankful for where we are today, and what this last year at Michigan has to offer. This being the first entry of the Senior Blog, it's only appropriate that I introduce you to everyone:
Brenae "B" Harris (No. 1): Brenae is a true freshman and we had an instant bond because we are the only Ohioans on the team.
Cyesha "Byrdie" Goree (No. 22): Byrdie is a true freshman from Grand Rapids who taught me how to Dougie.
Nicole "NOT Nick" Elmblad (No. 14): Nicole is a true freshman and a true "U-Per" who greatly prefers being called "Nicole" over being called "Nick."
Aquashia "Peaches" Anderson (No. 23): Peaches is a true freshman and is our one and only Mississippian, who we all think talks funny.
Valerie "Vallie" Driscoll (No. 34): Val is a sophomore from Boston who recites lines from "Mean Girls" on a daily basis.
Kendra "Kenny" Seto (No. 54): Kenny is a redshirt sophomore who loves to dance, and is our lone Canadian on the team.
Sam "Sammie" Arnold (No. 11): Sam is a junior and qualifies as my Sunday morning breakfast buddy.
Nya "Nea" Jordan (No. 21): Nya is a junior and she's our team artist and is also my neighbor and my carpool buddy.
Jenny "JR" Ryan (No. 24): Jenny is a junior who is my companion in completing 1000+ piece puzzles on my kitchen table.
Rachel "Sheff" Sheffer (No. 44): Rachel is a junior and she and Jenny and have a dog named Monte, who I enjoy playing with in my free time.
Kate "Kate-O" Thompson (No. 12): Kate is a junior and is my fellow snipe shooter and wingman.
Jamillya "Jammy" "Jay" "Jam" Hardley (No. 4): Jam is one of my fellow seniors who have the most nicknames of anyone I know.
Courtney "C-Boy" Boylan (No. 2): Court is another senior and is my partner in crime and my bestie for life.
Carmen "Carm" Reynolds (No. 33): I'm a senior and you'll find out more about me as you follow our Senior Blog!
However, I've been told and reminded by my father that I have the opportunity to score 1,000 career point this year. I'm 107 points away.
Honestly, I totally forgot about the fact that I'm approaching my 1,000th career point. It's not something that's been on my mind and not something I'm necessarily working towards. It'd be amazing if I get there and it would be quite the blessing if I get to join my former teammates Carly Benson and Veronica Hicks in the 1,000 point club, but my focus is solely on my team's success. The only thing that's on my mind this season is winning. Whatever it takes to win, I'm all in.
We are four weeks into school and preseason has come to an end. Each and every one of us is ready and excited for our first day of practice. Our entire team, including our freshmen, has spent the summer together, which has given us the opportunity to get to know each other and mesh together as a team. I'm pleased to say that not only are the freshmen adding their abilities and athleticism to the court but are great additions to our team chemistry.
We are all pumped to take advantage of these next weeks to improve as a team. Yes, we do in fact have a countdown going on in our locker room; 21 days until our first game in Gainesville against the University of Florida. WE CANNOT WAIT!
Until next time,
"Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there." - John Wooden
