Michigan swimmers won a pair of events, the 100-yard backstroke and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Junior Miguel Ortiz (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) captured the 100-yard backstroke title in the first event of the afternoon, clocking a time of 48.64 to start the meet on a positive note for the Wolverines.
U-M closed out the meet 12 events later with a narrow triumph in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the quartet of Ortiz, sophomore Michael Wynalda (Wyoming, Mich./Grandville), junior Evan Gregg (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) and junior Roman Willets (Whitehouse, Ohio/St. Francis deSales) edged the Canadian National Training Center by .38 seconds, turning in a time of 2:58.16.
Other solid performances came from sophomore/freshman Zach Kelch (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), who took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:38.28), and from freshman Richard Funk (Edmonton, Alberta/Stratchcona), who turned in a time of 2:03.82 in the 200-yard breaststroke to earn a second-place finish.
