PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan senior Dan Madwed (Stamford, Conn./Towson) was named Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday (Nov. 8) after his performance in Michigan's double dual meet victories over the University of Texas and Indiana University.
In his first dual meet since earning a gold and silver medal at the Pan-American Games, Madwed captured a pair butterfly event titles with times that are currently the top marks in the NCAA, as well as NCAA provisional qualifying marks. The first victory came in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:45.66 and was followed up by a win in the 100-yard fly with a time of 47.42.
The senior also added a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as he combined with junior Sean Fletcher (Vienna, Va./James Madison), freshman Richard Funk (Edmonton, Alberta/Stratchcona) and junior Miguel Ortiz (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) to clock a time of 1:29.42, just behind Texas' time of 1:29.05.
The weekly honor is Madwed's fourth of his career, as his most recent nod came on Jan. 18, 2011. He is the second Michigan swimmer this season to earn the conference's weekly recognition; sophomore Connor Jaeger (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) earned the accolade on Oct. 18.
