Michigan Head Coach Kevin Borseth
On facing Indiana State and Illinois State ... "We have just looked at Indiana State, because Indiana State is immediate. They pretty much have the same team that they had last year. They can really shoot the ball. They made 11 threes against us last year when we played them. Their big kid inside has much improved, but they are pretty much the same team that we played last year and we had our hands full when we played them. Offensively, they run a multitude of things, they've got a lot of schematics that they run, so you've got to be prepared for a lot of things that they do."
On playing against Indiana State's 6-4 player to help prepare for Big Ten teams ... "Well size is a factor, and the higher up you go, the bigger the kids seem to get. Obviously, Indiana State's player is going to be big under the basket. Rachel (Sheffer) and Sam (Arnold) both have to do a lot, one-on-one, if they are going to score and will have to work hard defensively to stop her."
On how the team will defend Indiana State ... "The three-point range is what really concerns me. They can really shoot it. They have a couple of kids that just drop-stop shoot, and they are pretty good at it. In the meantime, they have the kid around the basket that we have to deal with. We have guarded players from the front all year, and I don't know if that is going to change."
On Carmen Reynolds not scoring as many points as she usually does in recent games ... "We are going to go back and take a look. I think Carmen really gets guarded closely, and that opens avenues for other people to score. We have since put some things in offensively to give Carmen some opportunities off specific plays to score, but she is being watched pretty closely at this point. Carmen's mechanics are really good. It's just a matter of her getting enough shots. If she gets enough shots, she will make them. She is a good shooter, she is a money shooter. She is one of those kids that are going to make it when she shoots it. That is a confidence we all have in her."
U-M Junior Guard Jenny Ryan
On how the team's defense will change against better teams ... "You learn from every game. You are not going to be perfect every night and sometimes, like against Eastern, defensively we might have let down a couple of times, but they are a good team and they will make us pay for those things. We will just have to work every day in practice, and get better. We will watch film and learn from it, and move on from there."
U-M Junior Center/Forward Rachel Sheffer
On the turn of fortune at Eastern Michigan ... "That is part of the game. We would get on a roll and then we would get a call that would go against us and we would have to go back and start all over again. It's all part of the game. Every athlete gets frustrated; you've just got to overcome it."
