With the win, Michigan improves to 17-11 (7-8 Big Ten) for the season. This was U-M's sixth win in its last eight games. The Wolverines are now 4-5 on the road this season.
With the win, Michigan improves to 89-57 (84-52*) all-time against Iowa. U-M has won its last six and nine out of its last 10 games against the Hawkeyes.
The Wolverines are now 35-35 against the Hawkeyes in Iowa City.
Coach John Beilein is now 8-2 against Iowa.
Saturday's game marked the second matchup this season between Michigan and Iowa. The Wolverines have taken both meetings, also defeating the Hawkeyes, 87-71, in Ann Arbor on Jan. 30.
Saturday's game marked the second overtime game this season for Michigan; U-M also lost to Kansas, 67-60, in overtime on Jan. 9. This was the third straight meeting between the Wolverines and Hawkeyes in Iowa City to reach an extra period. U-M came out with a victory in each game.
Tim Hardaway Jr. led Michigan with a career-high 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting (64 percent), including 5-of-7 (71 percent) from behind the arc and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. Hardaway is the first Wolverine since Manny Harris (Nov. 11, 2008 vs. Michigan Tech) to score at least 30 points in a game. Hardaway added three rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in the win.
Darius Morris scored 20 points on 8-of-12 (67 percent) shooting. It is Morris' seventh 20-point effort this season. Morris now has scored in double figures in 13 consecutive games. He also dished out a game-high nine assists, marking his highest assist total since dishing out 11 assists against the Hawkeyes in Ann Arbor on Jan. 30. Morris added five rebounds and two steals in the win.
With his nine assists against Iowa, Darius Morris becomes the single-season assists leader by a sophomore with 193 assists. He passes Gary Grant, who dished out 185 assists in the 1985-86 campaign. Morris now stands alone in third place on the Wolverines' single-season assists list, trailing only Grant (234 in 1987-88) and Rumeal Robinson (233 in 1988-89).
Jordan Morgan scored 18 points on 6-of-7 (86 percent) shooting, including 6-of-9 (67 percent) from the free throw line. This was his 12th double-digit scoring effort of the season. Morgan added a game-high eight rebounds and a steal in the win.
Michigan shot 25-of-52 (48 percent) from the field, 6-of-20 (30 percent) from behind the arc and 19-of-24 (79 percent) from the free throw line.
U-M lost the rebounding battle, 36-27. The Wolverines are 7-10 this season when they are outrebounded by their opponent.
The Wolverines had 14 assists and turned the ball over 13 times. Michigan is 13-6 this season when it has a positive assist/turnover ratio.
Michigan's defense forced Iowa into 16 turnovers, leading to 23 points. U-M is 8-6 this season when it commits fewer turnovers than its opponent.
The game featured six ties and four lead changes. Michigan never trailed after taking a 71-69 lead on a Jordan Morgan layup in overtime and lead by as many as 10 during the contest.
The Wolverines wore their blue jerseys for the eighth time this season. Michigan is now 3-5 this season when wearing blue.
For the fourth straight game, Michigan went with the starting lineup of Darius Morris, Stu Douglass, Zack Novak, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Jordan Morgan.
