ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Lauren Young (Edina, Minn./Edina) placed first in the high jump and sophomore Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) claimed the weight throw crown as the No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team wrapped up the regular season as host of the Silverston Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 19) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. The Wolverines, resting a majority of the team, won two field events at their indoor home finale, the final competition before next week's Big Ten Indoor Championships (Sat-Sun., Feb. 26-27).
U-M won both events in the field, winning both the high jump and the weight throw. Young set a new personal record in her high jump victory, clearing 1.70 meters (5-7) to win her first event of 2011.
Erin Pendleton won the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 18.14 meters (59-6) while placing second in the shot put with a throw of 13.44 meters (44-1 1/4). She finished runner-up to senior Emily Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore), who was competing unattached and threw 15.30 meters (50-2 1/2) to establish a new PR.
Redshirt freshman Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western) equaled her career-best clearance in the pole vault, taking third place with a height of 3.85 meters (12-7 1/2).
Freshman Erin Busbee (Cleveland, Ohio/Collinwood) collected a pair of top-three finishes in the field, finishing a close runner-up in the long jump with an attempt of 5.75 meters (18-10 1/2), falling just 1/4 short of the winning distance. She also snared a third-place finish in the triple jump (11.62 meters, 38-1 1/2) in her final event of the afternoon.
The Wolverines look to improve upon last year's eighth-place finish at the Big Ten Indoor Championships next weekend (Sat-Sun., Feb. 26-27) at Purdue.

Q U O T E S
Michigan Head Coach James Henry
On what the team accomplished this week before heading into Big Tens ... "We got a chance to rest. We have had a long season, and it went pretty fast. The girls have worked hard and it was time to rest our bodies, take our minds off competition for a week. "
On which athletes stood out at the Silverston ... "Lauren Young had an outstanding day for us. She cleared a personal-best in the high jump. She has been battling injuries all year and has been working through it. She finally had a breakout performance for us today. It was good to see. Our throwers were consistently good today. Those were two areas that we really wanted to be precise today."
On what he is looking for at Big Tens ... "Just to see them come together and improve upon last year. Last year, we had a really down year. Performances were nowhere near what we expected. We want to be in the first division in each event, and hopefully end in the top four, top five of the conference.
