Hagelin Agrees to Terms with New York Rangers

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Senior forward Carl Hagelin (Sodertalje, Sweden) of the University of Michigan ice hockey team signed an undisclosed entry-level contract with the New York Rangers on Wednesday (April 13). Hagelin was sixth-round draft pick (168th overall) of the Rangers at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and will report to the Connecticut Whale, the AHL affiliate of New York. He is expected to play in the Whale's Calder Cup opening playoff series against Portland this weekend.
A U-M captain for the 2010-11 season, Hagelin led the team in goals, assists and points with an 18-31-49 line while playing in all 44 games as a senior. He was also the Wolverines' leader in plus/minus (+21) and set career highs for power-play goals (7), game-winning goals (6) and multi-point games (15). En route to taking Michigan to the 2011 NCAA Frozen Four, Hagelin was named to the AHCA West All-America second team, All-CCHA first team and the CCHA's Best Defensive Forward.
Hagelin was an alternate captain as a junior in 2009-10, setting career highs for goals (19) and points (50). He accumulated a point in 35 of 45 games that season, including a career-best 11-game point streak that was U-M's longest since 2006-2007.
For his career, Hagelin appeared in 171 career games, placing him in a two-way tie for second place on the all-time games played list for U-M forwards. He posted 61 goals and 91 assists for 152 points. Additionally, Hagelin completed his four seasons with a +78 rating, 14 power-play goals, 14 game-winning goals and 133 penalty minutes while appearing in four NCAA Tournaments (2008-11) and two NCAA Frozen Fours (2008, 2011).
