YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Four event winners from the University of Michigan men's track and field team highlighted the two-day Eastern Michigan Twilight Invitational, which concluded on Saturday (April 23) at Olds-Marshall Track.
Rain and wind had an impact on the competition on Friday (April 22), but the Wolverines found a spark in the 400-meter hurdles. Redshirt freshman Troy Sneller (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton) won the event, crossing the finish line at 53.21. The event was also the return of outdoor captain Carl Buchanon (South Bend, Ind./Clay), who competed in his first meet in three months and finished with a time of 56.02. It was Buchanon's first competition since the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Jan. 22.
Redshirt sophomore Matthew Campbell (Rochester, Mich./Rochester) continued his outdoor season surge with another strong performance on Saturday, winning the 400-meter dash (48.00). Senior Nick McCampbell (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) tied for second with Herman Washington (Blacklick, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) in the 110-meter hurdles (14.51), with McCampbell also taking 12th in the 200-meter dash (22.49). Sophomore Aaron Taylor (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) also had a strong afternoon, winning the 200-meter dash (21.71) and finishing fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.05).
Freshmen were on display in the field throughout the weekend.
