ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Senior co-captain Carl Hagelin (Sodertalje, Sweden) of the University of Michigan hockey team was selected to the Old Time Hockey West All-America second team for the 2010-11 season, the American Hockey Coaches Association on Friday (April 8). The award places Hagelin among the top 24 college players in the country. Hagelin is the first recipient of the honor since Louie Caporusso (2007-current) and Aaron Palushaj (2008-09) were tabbed for the first team in 2008-09.
The Wolverines' leading scorer in every major category, Hagelin (18-31-49) has helped lead Michigan to this year's Great Lakes Invitational title, the CCHA regular-season championship, and the NCAA Frozen Four Championship game. Nationally, he ranks 14th in total points and is tied for sixth in game-winning goals.
Hagelin has also garnered a plethora of awards in the CCHA. He was a finalist for player of the year, named to the All-CCHA first team and scholar athlete team, and earned the distinction of best defensive forward.
Hagelin and the Wolverines will seek Michigan's 10th NCAA title on Saturday (April 9) against Minnesota-Duluth. The puck is set to drop at 6 p.m. CDT, and the game will be televised on ESPN and webcast on ESPN3.com.
