DALLAS, Texas -- Junior Miguel Ortiz (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) and senior Dan Madwed (Stamford, Conn./Towson) won the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly, respectively, Friday (Jan. 13) at the SMU Classic, where the fourth-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team leads after day one at Perkins Natatorium. The Wolverines, who are represented by eight swimmers, lead USC (148), Florida (139.50), North Carolina (128), SMU (125.50), and Purdue (113) after day one of action.

Madwed clocked a 47.61 for his second straight 100 fly win at the SMU Classic and Ortiz touched the wall in 46.73 for U-M's sixth straight 100 backstroke title of the season.

Day two of the event commences at 7:30 p.m. CST.
