Michigan dropped to 71-49-5 all-time against Notre Dame and has earned a 2-1-0 record in the last three meetings with the Irish.
Tonight's loss ended a nine-game unbeaten streak for the Wolverines, who are now 7-1-2 in their last 10 outings.
Alex Guptill scored a power-play goal for the Wolverines, the 13th goal of his career. Guptill is now tied for the team lead with 25 points (13g, 12a) and three power-play tallies this season.
Guptill has now recorded points in a career-high five straight games, posting nine points (4g, 5a) during the streak.
Greg Pateryn and David Wohlberg each earned assists on Guptill's third-period goal.
Wohlberg extended his scoring streak to five games (3g, 6a) with his assist.
Michigan's third-period power play goal was the team's first man-advantage tally since the Great Lakes Invitational final against Michigan State on Dec. 30, 2011.
Goaltender Shawn Hunwick turned aside 32-of-34 shots, while Michigan scored one goal on 31 shots.
The Wolverine power play finished the contest 1-for-4 and U-M successfully killed off 4-of-4 Notre Dame man-advantage chances.
