With the win tonight, Michigan improved its all-time record versus the Spartans to 141-124-19. The Wolverines own a 24-18-5 mark against MSU at Joe Louis Arena. U-M is now 17-4-0 in its last 21 games overall at JLA.
Michigan remains in third place in the CCHA standings, six points behind first-place Ferris State and one point behind second-place Western Michigan. Each team has four games remaining in the regular season.
The Wolverines improved their record to 11-2-2 in the last 15 games overall, dating back to Dec. 3 at Alaska. Michigan finished the regular season with a 3-1-1 mark against the Spartans, including two overtime wins. All five games versus MSU were decided by one goal.
Kevin Lynch netted the overtime winner tonight; his fourth goal in five games against Michigan State this season. Lynch also tallied the game-tying goal, with 50 seconds left in the third period, to send the GLI Championship to overtime on Dec. 30. Lynch now has goals in back-to-back games and finished the season series with six points (4g, 2a) against Michigan State.
Forward A.J. Treais extended his career-high point streak to five games with two goals in tonight's win. Treais has earned seven points (6g, 1a) during his current streak.
Lee Moffie and Luke Glendening each tallied one assist tonight, both tying their career-high point streaks at four games apiece. Moffie has posted six points (2g, 4a) during his streak, while Gledening has registered four assists. Moffie, who leads the Wolverines and all CCHA defensemen with 20 assists, has earned five helpers against the Spartans this season.
Michigan's Hobey Baker Award nominee, goaltender Shawn Hunwick, turned aside 33-of-35 shots for his 18th win of the season. Hunwick has earned an 11-2-1 record, with three shutouts, a 1.51 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage in 14 games since Dec. 3.
