RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- Using a team-best 11th-place individual finish from senior Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS), the University of Michigan women's golf team opened its spring season tallying a 928 54-hole total to finish 12th today (Tuesday, Feb. 14) at the 2012 Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
In an event that featured 12 top-50 teams, the Wolverines opened with a 310 tally Sunday (Feb. 12), paced by a one-over 73 from Bauer, before posting back-to-back rounds of 309 over the next two days
After posting back-to-back 73s, Bauer found herself among the top 10 after the first 36 holes, just six shots off the pace. With a final-round 76, Bauer just slipped out of the top 10. Sophomore Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County HS) posted her sixth straight top-40 individual finish, tying for 33rd with a 230. After opening her spring season with a 79, she followed with descending totals of 77 and 74.
Other finishes for the Wolverines included freshman Linda Luo (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS) tying for 53rd at 237 (80-80-77), freshman Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson HS) tying for 69th at 242 (78-82-82) and sophomore Alyssa Shimel (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood HS) closing 81st at 250 (85-79-86). Junior Caramia Sitompul (Jakarta, Indonesia/Bradenton Prep [Fla.]) played as an individual, tying for 72nd at 243 (79-82-82).
The Wolverines return to Ann Arbor for six days before heading back south to Parrish, Fla., next Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 20-21) as they will play in the 2012 Central District Classic. The 54-hole event, hosted by Michigan State, will be played the River Wilderness Country Club.

With her 11th-place finish, Meagan Bauer has posted three top-15 individual finishes this season.
