MIAMI, Fla. -- Former University of Michigan men's basketball star Juwan Howard (1992-94) helped the Miami Heat to a 121-106 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder Thursday (June 21) to claim the 2012 NBA championship, four games to one. It marks the first NBA title in Howard's 17-year NBA career and the second for the Heat franchise, which also won the title in 2006.
Playing alongside NBA superstars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, Howard appeared in nine playoff games during Miami's championship run. En route to the title, Howard and the Heat defeated the New York Knicks (4-1) in the first round, the Indiana Pacers (4-2) in the conference semifinals, and the Boston Celtics (4-3) in the conference final.
Howard has played in 1,201 career games during his NBA career, scoring 16,138 points and grabbing 7,420 rebounds. While at Michigan, Howard was part of the famed Fab Five and played three seasons in Ann Arbor before leaving early for the NBA. He was the fifth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft by the Washington Bullets (Wizards).
An All-American in 1993-94, Howard played in 100 career games for U-M, scoring 1,526 points and grabbing 745 rebounds.
