ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman forward Corinne Harris (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep) scored her first collegiate goal in the 65th minute to propel the University of Michigan women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over in-state foe Detroit on Sunday (Aug. 26) at U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines' completed their four-match homestand with an unblemished 4-0-0 record, scoring nine total goals while yielding only one.

Offensive chances were at a premium throughout the contest. The match was scoreless after 45 minutes of play, with Michigan holding the edge in shots, 7-2, including a pair of shots on goal.
Detroit captured momentum early in the second half with a flurry of chances directed toward the Michigan defense, but the Wolverines withstood and were able to capitalize at 64:00 on Harris' goal. Junior Meghan Toohey (Philadelphia, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) sent the ball backward to junior Kayla Mannino (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Avondale), who eased forward from her defensive position and sent the ball into the 18-yard box. The shot ricocheted off a Detroit defender to a charging Harris, who buried it into the back of the net to give Michigan the lead for good.
Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lahser) did not make a save in the match but earned the 17th shutout of her career, third most in program history. She remains second on the school's all-time list for career saves at 314. She needs nine saves to become the program leader, currently held by Megan Tuura (2003-06), who had 322.
Michigan hits the road this week for a non-conference swing through California, beginning with a match on Thursday (Aug. 30) against Cal State Northridge. The match will begin at 7 p.m. PDT at Matador Soccer Field in Northridge, Calif.
