
Michigan Starts Play at Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team kicked off the 2012 fall season by winning two doubles matches and six singles matches as host of the three-day Wolverine Invitational on Friday (Sept. 21) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Sophomore Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) and junior Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan), ranked No. 5 on the doubles court, teamed up to knock off Georgia's No. 30-ranked duo of Kate Fuller and Lauren Herring, 8-6, to start the day's action.
Sophomore Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) and freshman Amy Zhu (Newark, Del./Laurel Springs) picked up U-M's other win on the doubles front, defeating Caroline Hitimana and Brianna Morgan of Florida, 9-7.
The Maize and Blue went 6-for-7 on the singles court, winning in five in straight sets. Lee ended the day's action with a come-from-behind victory over Western Michigan's Jill Pastunink, rallying for the 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 win.
The Wolverine Invitational continues on Saturday (Sept. 22), with doubles starting at 10 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center.
